Sylvester Stallone Biography & Wiki

Sylvester Stallone was born on July 6, 1946, in New York City, New York, USA. Eldest son of Frank Stallone, the hairdresser of Italian origin who emigrated to the United States in the 1930s, and of Jackie Stallone, former dancer and astrologer, he grew up in his hometown.

When he was born, he suffered from a facial paralysis on his left side, which caused him speech problems throughout his childhood and mockery from his classmates. Students not very interested in studies, he prefers sport and practices bodybuilding.

However, he enrolled in college, studied drama, and did odd jobs. The beginnings of the young aspirant are difficult. He skims the auditions but does not land any role, he appears in a few plays on the sidelines of Broadway, then connects periods of unemployment.

In 1970, in great financial difficulty, he accepted a role in an erotic film, The Party at Kitty's and stud's (renamed the Italian Stallion once the actor was famous). In 1974, after brief appearances, he managed to land a supporting role in Hands in Pockets.

During this crossing of the desert, Sylvester Stallone writes the story of Rocky Balboa, an unknown boxer who finds himself on the front of the stage to face the world boxing champion. His career struggles to take off, so he decides to find producers and interpret the title role of his screenplay.

In 1976, it was the director John G. Avildsen who brought Rocky to the screen. The unexpected and immediate success of the film propelled Sylvester Stallone to the top of the box office. The film won three Oscars including that of the best film of the year.

Subsequently, the actor embarked on a real saga of Rocky and wrote five other scripts in 1979, 1982, 1985, 1990, and 2006. At the same time, he saw another success story with a new role, that of Rambo, a veteran of the Vietnam War in the early 80s, which definitely places him in the ranks of a star.

The actor accustomed to action films has found the character of John Rambo three times (1985, 1988 and 2008). During the 1980s, Sylvester Stallone varied the registers and appeared in a crime thriller (Les Faucons de la Nuit), a musical (New York Cowboy), a police comedy (Cash and Tango).

Then, he tries to distance himself from the roles of Rocky and Rambo and turns to comedy in the 90s, but it fails (The mud is in the bag, stop or my mother will shoot). He then returned to action films and shot Cliffhanger (1993), The Expert (1994), or Cop Land (1997). In his fifties, the actor goes through a slump punctuated by commercial failures (Driven, D-Tox).

Sylvester Stallone Life & Career

Based in a quiet neighborhood in the suburbs of Philadelphia, Sylvester Stallone was passionate about physical culture from the age of twelve. He was also interested in comedy, taking his first roles in the local high school troupe, but decided to focus on the sport before being sent to the American College in Geneva to teach gymnastics.

On his return to the United States, the young man takes comedy classes at the University of Miami and skims the castings. In 1970, he ended up starring in an erotic film, The Italian Stallion, then appearing in Bananas (1971) by Woody Allen. After a few television attempts, the actor specializes in the roles of thugs (Hands in the pockets(1974), Adieu, ma Jolie (1975), The Death Race of the year 2000 (id.)).

Tired of waiting for the role of his life, Sylvester Stallone writes the story of a boxer who started from nothing who made his dreams of champion come true. If the script interests many studios, all nevertheless want a confirmed star to put on boxing gloves. Stallone stood up to them and finally won his case: in 1976, Rocky's fate made the American actor a superstar.

Sylvester Stallone was nominated in the Best Actor and Best Screenwriter categories at the 1977 Oscars, while the film was crowned Best Picture by the Academy and had four more episodes (Rocky 2 (1979), Rocky 3 (1982), Rocky 4 (1985), Rocky 5 (1990)). From then on, film projects are based on his name alone, such as the drama FIST (1978).

In addition to the Rocky saga, Sylvester Stallone is in 1982 with the poster of a new action film which will consolidate him in his status of the star: the veteran of the war of Vietnam John J. Rambo, which will know two other opuses in 1985 (Rambo II: the mission) and 1988 (Rambo III).

In 1996, Daylightmarks a turning point in the career of the actor: endowed with a budget of 80 million dollars, this disaster film does not even bring in half of it in the United States. Sylvester Stallone then revises his ambitions downwards and accepts a fee of $ 60,000 (against the twenty million he was able to collect) to play a deaf sheriff in Copland (1997), a role that will be hailed by critics.

Unfortunately, in the 2000s, if Sylvester Stallone was talking about him again, it was in reference to the successive failures of his films: Get Carter, Driven, Avenging Angelo, and The Masters of the Game. In 2002, the thriller Deadly Countdown is not evenly distributed in the United States.

But the actor always knows how to use his charisma and be self-deprecating, as evidenced by its appearance nod in Taxi 3 (2003) and its caricature delivery Toymaster in Mission 3D Spy Kids 3 (2004). After having hosted the reality TV show The Contender on the world of boxing, the fallen star manages, at the age of 59, to return to the ring for the needs of Rocky Balboa (2007), the sixth opus of the famous saga in nostalgic hints.
